<p>《宋書》曰：明帝憎婦人妬。劉休妻王氏妬，帝聞之，賜休妾，勑王氏二十杖，令休於宅後開小店，使王氏親賣掃箒、皂莢，以此辱之。</p>

<p>《嶺表錄異》曰：桄榔樹，枝葉並蕃茂，與棗檳榔等樹小異。然葉下有鬚，如麄馬尾。廣人採之，以織巾子。其鬚尤宜鹹水浸漬，即麄脹而肕，故人以此縛舶，不用釘線。木性如竹，紫黑色，有文理而堅。工人解之，以制慱奕局。此樹皮中有屑如麵，可為餅食之。</p>

<p>杜寶《大業拾遺錄》曰：洛陽翊津橋，通翻經道場東街。其道場有婆羅門僧，及身毒僧十餘人，新翻諸經。其所翻經本從外國來，用貝多樹葉書，書即今胡書體。貝多葉，長一尺五六寸，闊五寸許，葉形似琵琶而厚大，橫作行書，隨經多少，縫綴其一邊，怗怗然。</p>
