<p>劉昭《幼童傳》曰：晉明帝，諱紹，元帝子。初。元帝為江東都督，鎮揚州。時中原喪亂，有人從長安來，帝問洛下消息，潸然流涕。帝年數歲，問泣故，具以東渡意告之。因問帝：「汝意謂長安何如日遠？」答曰：「不聞人從日邊來，只聞人從長安來，居然可知。」帝異之。明日，集群臣宴會，說以此答，明帝又以為日近。帝動容問：「何故異昨日之言？」答曰：「舉頭不見長安，只見日，以是知近。」帝大悅。</p>

<p>又曰：孔子晨游，見兩小兒爭辯而鬥。孔子問其故，一兒曰：「我以日始出時去人近，日中時去人遠。」一兒曰：「我以為日初出時遠，而日中時近。」曰：「爾何以知？」曰：「日初出，大如車輪；及中，才如盤蓋。此不為遠者小而近者大乎？」一兒曰：「日初出滄滄涼涼，及其中如探湯，此不為近者熱而遠者涼乎？」孔子不能決。兩兒笑曰：「丘！孰謂汝多知乎？」</p>
